Hello and Welcome to my website!

I hope this site helps you get to know me and my work and allows you to consider how we might work together to serve your own goals, needs, and desires.

I am a clinical psychologist and have been in private practice for over 25 years. I have learned a lot over these years from a wide diversity of clients with different issues and struggles about how to accompany people during times of challenge, transition, and growth. I love several things about being a therapist. First is that I get to know people deeply as they get to know themselves. That is a true honor. Second, my work requires that I keep learning, and my ongoing learning expands my expertise and capacity to help more people. Third, I get to witness people healing from past experiences and trauma, repairing and improving the quality of their current relationships, becoming more resilient, and making changes in their lives that reflect and increase their own vitality. Fourth, I really like people and I genuinely care, and my work invites and allows me to care and connect. Early in my training, I was fortunate to encounter a powerful approach to psychotherapy that integrated so much of the disparate theories of psychology and therapy that I had studied in grad school: AEDP.

I have had the honor of helping to found the AEDP Institute and to contribute, through teaching and writing, to the development of this model of psychotherapy, created by Dr. Diana Fosha. I continue to enjoy learning, writing, teaching, and supervising other clinicians in AEDP. All of these professional activities feed back into my work with individual people to make it richer, deeper, and more helpful.

A belief that is woven through all of my work is that we are all wiser than we know. We can get stuck in unproductive habits, symptoms, cycles in relationships or ways of seeing ourselves. Often the way out is through. I really believe that even these “wayward ways” are attempts at being on behalf of ourselves. The way through involves figuring out what our symptoms, habits, and patterns are trying to tell us about how we feel, what we need, and what we know. That way we find the freedom to choose healthier and more productive paths to achieving the happiness, health, and peace of mind we are all seeking. This process often requires support and another mind and heart to really listen with compassion and curiosity. It is natural for me to help people feel welcomed and safe. In the context of a strong therapeutic bond, we can explore, support, and challenge you to process painful experiences, let go of old patterns, and step into a more rewarding life.
